Roles & Responsibilities

To work within the Laboratory of Dr. Zunlong Ke at the Department of Molecular Biosciences, the University of Texas at Austin. This position is for a full-time researcher graduated in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or Infectious Diseases who will be responsible for developing scientific research projects in cancer-causing viruses using cutting edge structural biology technologies. The successful candidate will assist with cell culture, virus infection/transfection, fluorescence imaging, cryo-electron microscopy, and cryo-electron tomography data acquisition within the Ke Lab, as well as contribute to the smooth running of the lab.


Carry out cutting-edge research in infectious diseases, by employing advanced empirical, experimental, and image-processing tools.
Engage in experimental design and troubleshooting during sample preparation, data collection, and image analysis.
Assist with data acquisition for scientific seminars, publications, and grant applications.
Assist with the day-to-day lab duties for the smooth running of the lab.
Contribute to the Department’s and University’s mission in the public engagement of science, and the translation of research findings into improvements in human health.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related scientific field. A strong background in general molecular biology and interest in infectious diseases. Knowledge of biochemistry and cell biology, including cloning and cell culture. Basic knowledge in computer language, including but not limited to MATLAB, Python. Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in virology and computer language is a plus.


$35,568 + depending on qualifications
